The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping for better tidings following the conclusion of the international break.
It is no secret that recently promoted Newcastle United had a tough time in the transfer market this summer as the club missed out on many of their transfer targets.
Despite the difficult summer, Benitez has confirmed he is determined to push on and try and re-establish Newcastle as a consistent top-flight side.
In some sort of saving grace, the Magpies can still sign up any free agent they find to bolster their squad for the season ahead.
The position that Benitez really needs to sort out as soon as possible is at left-back.
Paul Dummett is currently injured and expected to return soon, leaving the club with Massadio Haidara as the club’s only natural left-back, only he wasn’t included in their 25-man Premier League squad.
With that being said, here are two free agent left-backs that Newcastle United need to sign after their terrible summer.
Kieran Richardson

Formerly of Manchester United, where he won two Premier League titles, Kieran Richardson was released by Cardiff City in January of this year and has been without a club ever since.
Never the best player, what Richardson would bring to this struggling Newcastle side is experience.
Experience could be exactly what Benitez’s team needs to help them in their first season back in the top flight.
Julian Palmieri

Julian Palmieri made 22 appearances for Lille in the French league last season, scoring one goal and contributing to two assists.
Another experienced player Newcastle could add to their ranks, the 30-year-old has been without a club since deadline day of this year.
Palmieri is an attack minded left-back who can play in a variety of positions for Newcastle in the season ahead.
