It’s been a bad week for our Gunners fans here in the Transfer Tavern who saw Arsenal lose some serious ground in the title race.
The men from north London had the chance to go top of the league for at least a day had they beaten Everton on Tuesday night but instead they were overwhelmed at Goodison Park.
The Toffees out-ran and out-fought their visitors and duly ran out 2-1 winners before things got worse for the men from the Emirates on Wednesday night.
Each of their title rivals won their games to see the Gunners reeled in by the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City whilst Chelsea pulled further ahead to now have a six point lead.
Dealings in January are need, then, according to our landlord and he reckons these two ins and this out would ensure the Gunners do not get left behind in the title race for the second half of the season…
In: Julian Draxler
Draxler is a superb talent but needs a bigger stage to perform than the one he currently has at the moment.
With all due respect to Wolfsburg they are not going to challenge at the top of the Bundesliga or in the Champions League any time soon and so Arsenal should do their very best to persuade him they can offer that to him. He has the potential to be world class and the Gunners would surely help him realise that potential.
Out: Gabriel Paulista
Gabriel just isn’t good enough for Arsenal and needs to be shown the door as soon as possible.
He’s been playing recently with the Gunners’ injury problems but he won’t be in the side once the players that are out recover. He gets caught out of position quite a bit but worst of all he suffers a lot from having a rush of blood leading him to do something rash. That cannot do for a club challenging for the title.
In: Alexandre Lacazette
Arsenal still need another world class striker even if Alexis Sanchez stays up top for the club.
If the Gunners see the Chilean get injured at any point for the rest of this season our landlord thinks they could be completely out of the title race and that simply shouldn’t be the case for a club with the resources of Arsenal. Lacazette would be just the answer and many here by the bar think that such a signing would see the Gunners really go close, at least, to winning the league.
