The Manchester City fans here in the Transfer Tavern want to see their team pull their finger out in the January window to catch Chelsea up in the Premier League title race.

The Blues have begun to open up quite the gap to the rest of the chasing pack with them six points clear of second placed Liverpool and our local Citizens reckon they have the best chance of reeling them in.

With the financial resources, some of the players they have and of course Pep Guardiola in charge they are confident a title challenge is far from over yet and our landlord agrees.

He reckons if City use what they’ve got as well as they can there’s no reason why they can’t catch the Stamford Bridge side whilst he also thinks if they go for these two players and let this one go, they’ll certainly be looking good…

 In: Koke

Koke is exactly the kind of player that would see any side’s fortunes improve once he joined them.

City need him more than most, though, simply because of the way Pep Guardiola wants his team to play. Whilst the likes of David Silva can adopt his tactics not all of them can and so he needs to bring in players that can play possession obsessed football for the full game. Koke definitely fits that description.

 Out: Aleksandar Kolarov

Kolarov has shown this season that he really isn’t good enough to represent a title challenging team any more.

There’s always been doubts around him anyway but he’s certainly declined this season with Guardiola sticking him all over the place in defence. None of those positions have helped his cause and he has been caught out an alarming amount of times. Surely, then, he needs to be sold as soon as possible once the window opens.

 In: Aymeric Laporte

Guardiola wants to sign new young defenders and so he shouldn’t look further than this man.

Whilst John Stones was signed with the idea that he would improve under Guardiola, Laporte is already looking like the finished article and would definitely improve City’s shaky defence. He’s tall and powerful and can read the game better than most whilst he doesn’t let even the best in La Liga get the better of him too often.
