Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern want some serious transfer action in January in a bid to reel in Chelsea at the top of the league.
Recent losses to Everton and Manchester City have flagged up some issues amongst the squad that many had thought were a thing of the past this season.
Indeed, many felt that Arsenal were now a tougher unit ready to rough it out in the face of adversity but they crumbled in both games.
Arsene Wenger, then, simply has to address that before it properly puts them out of the title race and our landlord is certainly of a similar impression.
If the Gunners want to win the league they need to buy and sell in January accordingly and so, with that in mind, here are two ins and an out that should see them improve for the second half of the campaign…
In: Marco Reus
Reus is world class and would definitely make Arsenal a better side.
A front four of the German, Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott would be absolutely devastating and so Arsene Wenger needs to do all he can to make it happen. Ozil, in particular, has come in for some criticism of late and so the signing of the Dortmund man may bring out the best in him at the Emirates, too.
Out: Mohamed Elneny
It seems harsh to say but Elneny is not good enough to play for Arsenal.
The Gunners need to get rid of these kinds of players if they want to challenge for the title as having a strong squad is of paramount importance. The defensive midfielder is behind Francis Coquelin and Granit Xhaka in the pecking order and with the latter far from impressive himself so far this season, that tells you a lot about Elneny.
In: Alexandre Lacazette
Arsenal still need a world class striker.
Whilst Alexis Sanchez has been top drawer through the middle this season he is better at dropping deeper and running at players than being a focal point. Olivier Giroud, meanwhile, will never be world class over a sustained period of time so Lacazette needs to come in. He’s been in blistering form for Lyon this year and deserves to show what he’s got in one of the most competitive leagues around.
