2 midfielders Arsenal must attempt to seal a deal for this month

It’s time for Arsene Wenger to put his money where his mouth is this month according to our resident Arsenal punters here in the Transfer Tavern.

The Gunners have seen their title charge take some significant dents in recent weeks and now they want their French boss to take a hammer to them and beat them straight.

It’s likely, according to our resident Arsenal fans, that the club will need extra players to help Wenger do just that, though, and so we could be about to see a busy old window for the Gunners.

Indeed, our landlord reckons they need to get the chequebook out if they are serious about winning the league this season because, at the moment, the club look short of fight and quality in key areas.

And, whilst they have a plethora of talented midfielders, it’s in the central areas where they still need some work.

That in mind, then, here are two midfielders our landlord reckons the club should get in this month…

Miralem Pjanic

Santi Cazorla is the main man when it comes to controlling football games for Arsenal and that’s a problem.

Not because he’s a poor player – he’s very talented in fact – but because he is nearing the twilight of his career and is being dogged by injury issues. Without the Spanish metronome keeping everyone on beat the Gunners looks slightly disjointed and so they need a replacement for him. That man, then, should be Juventus’ Miralem Pjanic.

Casemiro

At the start of this season, once again, everyone was crying out for Arsenal to sign a holding midfielder.

They actually delivered, too, in signing Granit Xhaka but as things have gone on this season the Swiss international has proven he still has much to learn. That’s really cost Arsenal, then, who could still do with a class holding player and Casemiro could just tick the boxes. When he’s played for Real Madrid he’s looked good and could be available with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric inevitably ahead of him in the pecking order.
