Our Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern want to see their new financial muscle put to good use in this January transfer window.

After a scintillating start followed by a dire run this season, things look to be looking up again for Ronald Koeman’s men and a good January window would help cement that.

The Toffees want to be back in Europe by the end of this season and our landlord reckons that is more than possible – providing they get the right targets in during this month.

There’s areas of the pitch, as there is with every club in the division, that could do with improving at Goodison Park and one of them, our landlord believes, is in midfield.

He’s got some ideas for who the club could sign this month for the central positions, though, and reckons these two players would certainly do a fine job…

Gylfi Sigurdsson

Swansea City are looking good for the drop right now but this man is certainly too good for the Championship if that happens.

The Icelandic international is a real master-craftsman with his ability to create chances out of nothing and score fine free-kicks. He’s got a great knack of scoring from open play, too, and with Ross Barkley having an average at best season so far, the Toffees should try and bring in the former Spurs man.

James Ward-Prowse

Ronald Koeman will know Ward-Prowse from his days at Southampton and our landlord reckons he should try and prise him away.

The Saints are beginning to run out of steam this season under Claude Puel and after the Toffees beat them 3-0 in the Premier League last week, Ward-Prowse could be tempted. The Toffees need to plan for the future with Gareth Barry nearing the end of his career and so the Saints midfielder would be the perfect solution.
