The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting Memphis Depay to be sold before the end of the month…

It will be a disappointing outcome for a player that had so much potential, but unfortunately for Depay – it just hasn’t worked for him in the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho is often a master at getting the best out of his players, but it seems as though Depay simply was not fit for England – and so a departure makes a lot of sense.

However, with Mourinho limited in the size of his squad and the vast expectations of the Man Utd board – the Portuguese boss must ensure that any money created from the sale of Depay is utilised efficiently.  Utd reportedly want £17.5 million for the winger, and provided they get that amount – could they possibly put it towards a new signing or two?

With that said, here are 2 players Man United should sign with the Memphis Depay money if he leaves…

 Nemanja Matic

Nemanja Matic has been in and out of the Chelsea first team this season, and an offer to reunite with the man that brought him back to England could be enough to turn the Serbian’s head around.

He has impressed for Chelsea this season, but the emergence of N’Golo Kante and the resurgence of Cesc Fabregas have limited Matic’s opportunities so far this season – and that will likely only worsen as the season continues.

He has played fairly regularly, but he is often in and out of the team – and at Man Utd, he might well become a regular starter.

The fee to bring him to Old Trafford would be unknown, but it is certainly worth an attempt by Mourinho.

 Franck Kessie

Franck Kessie is another player that would likely cost Man Utd more than the money they would get from selling Memphis Depay, but given that Morgan Schneiderlin was recently sold – there is definitely room for the Ivorian in the Man Utd midfield.

Tenacious, energetic and powerful – Kessie is perfect for the Premier League, and in many ways, he is the perfect Mourinho player.

At 20-years-old, he is a player for the future – but what an option he would be. Mourinho needs to invest in quality, not quantity – and Kessie is quality.
