Manchester City supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern in the past seven days or so after seeing their side come through three mammoth Premier League tests with their eight-point advantage over neighbours Manchester United firmly intact.

Pep Guardiola’s men were tipped by many to go on and win the title this season, and they have certainly lived up to expectations so far by winning 14 of their 15 league games, although their most recent three successes were undoubtedly their toughest. The Citizens narrowly edged past Huddersfield Town 2-1 last weekend before needing a 96th minute stunner from Raheem Sterling to beat Southampton by the same scoreline on Wednesday night. And David Silva’s 83rd minute strike secured them a third successive 2-1 victory on Sunday as Guardiola’s men came from behind to beat West Ham at the Etihad Stadium, thus maintaining their eight-point lead over United at the summit.

Thus, there have been many delighted City fans in the Tavern in recent times, many of whom are already eagerly anticipating this weekend’s Manchester derby at Old Trafford, despite there being a Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk in midweek.

In the meantime though, there has been plenty for our resident Citizens fans to get their teeth into, not least recent comments from pundit Pat Nevin which suggest that Guardiola is keen on Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen.

The Denmark international has been a regular feature in Antonio Conte’s backline this term and has actually kept David Luiz out of the team in recent times, having started each of their last five Premier League games.

And Nevin suggests that the 21-year-old is someone Guardiola wants at the Etihad, and were the centre-back to indeed make the move to Eastlands next year, here are TWO other stars who could follow him to the Premier League leaders…

Inigo Martinez

John Stones’ recent injury, Vincent Kompany’s lingering fitness issues, and Eliaquim Mangala’s apparent inability to step up when required could give Guardiola something to think about with regard to his centre-back options at the Etihad.

And that is likely why City have been linked with a move for Real Sociedad ace Inigo Martinez in recent times, who has certainly proven his worth to the Spanish side in recent years with several impressive displays in the heart of their backline.

And given that the 26-year-old can also play left-back, another area slightly lacking in depth following Benjamin Mendy’s long-term injury, it’s a deal the Citizens must look to strike in the New Year.

Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez’s future at Arsenal has been subject to speculation for a while now, what with it less than six months until his contract at the Emirates Stadium runs out, and it looking increasingly unlikely that he’ll sign an extension.

The Chile international has been at the North London outfit since 2014 and in that time has proven his worth to manager Arsene Wenger with 77 goals and 45 assists in just 138 games for the Gunners, helping them to two FA Cup titles.

Yet his uncertain contract situation has attracted much interest from City in recent times, and with Guardiola having worked with the 28-year-old before at Barcelona, he’ll know exactly how much Sanchez can bring to his side at the Etihad.

And given his interest reportedly remains intact, it’s a move they must look to make in the New Year.
