Ryan Giggs could be about to leave Manchester United in the coming weeks in a move which will end his 29-year association with the Red Devils.
The Welsh wizard has been a part of the furniture at Old Trafford for quite some time now and his departure would leave the Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern with a tear in their eye.
The contingent of supporters here in the Tavern have been reminiscing about the glory days when Giggs was playing in the first-team among his fellow members of the ‘class of 92’.
A side boasting so many youth team players will probably never be seen again the modern-day era of big money signings and prima donna foreign imports, making the success of Giggs and Co all the more impressive.
Here in the Transfer Tavern, Lee Clarke opted to take a look at two pros and two cons to Giggs leaving Manchester United….

PRO – A chance to shine elsewhere
If the former Manchester United winger is adamant that he wants to secure the manager’s job at United at some point in his career then he must go and prove himself at another club.
A job in the Sky Bet Championship would be perfect for him to cut his teeth in the hustle and bustle world that is football management.
Giggs is probably a decent coach but at the same time a club the size of Manchester United will always be reluctant to give him the job based on his current coaching CV – which only has his Red Devils role on it.
PRO – End of an era for the club
Manchester United have been trying to rebuild the club since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson three years ago.
Giggs is the sole survivor currently still involved with the first-team and until he departs there is a feeling that United will never quite be able to fully rebuild.
Giving the Welshman the managerial job – as many supporters were hoping – would have been disastrous at this stage in Giggs’ coaching career and allowing him to depart will be the best thing for both coach and club.
CON – Loss of identity
Jose Mourinho choosing to sack Giggs would indicate the club’s alarming lack of identity in the wake of Sir Alex’s departure.
The Portuguese manager is undoubtedly his own man but in keeping the 42-year-old around he would at least show the world that he cared about the principals of Manchester United Football Club.
It is unsure at this stage whether or not Mourinho actually wants to keep Giggs around the club at this stage but it would no doubt be a sad day for the club should he depart this summer.
CON – Giggs could flop as a manager
If Giggs opts to take on a role in management elsewhere there is every possibility that he might not be any good!
It is alright managing in the Premier League with a Manchester United squad for four games, as he did when David Moyes departed 24 months ago, but doing it for 46 games in the Championship is completely different.
The Welshman would be in the Football League on his own two feet and there is no guarantee that he would achieve success at all.
Paul Ince was a quality player for Manchester United but there wouldn’t be many Football League clubs offering him warm welcomes to their clubs given his managerial success, meaning Giggs must be careful when making his next career choice.
