2 reasons Everton should sign this Manchester City man if key star departs

Our Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern are growing in confidence that their club is back on the brink of the big-time with Ronald Koeman in charge.

The Toffees are going well at the moment in the Premier League thanks to an upturn in form and some exciting new signings as well as young players coming through.

Morgan Schneiderlin and Tom Davies are two that fit such a description and so Koeman will surely be looking for plenty more of where that came from in a bid to carry on their upward trajectory.

To help that, though, he’ll surely be keen on keeping his best players at the club, too, with Seamus Coleman certainly one of those.

The Irish international repeatedly gets linked with Manchester United, though, and so our landlord thinks the club had better put a contingency plan in place.

It appears they’re doing so, too, with Le 10 Sport (via Sport Witness) claiming the Toffees have an interest in Bacary Sagna and so, with that in mind, here are two reasons why that deal could work as a Coleman replacement…

 Offers similar attributes

Sagna and Coleman offer very similar traits to their respective sides.

Coleman is, in our landlord’s opinion, the better player but Sagna is more than capable of playing in Premier League games despite his age and is well suited to Everton’s style. Ronald Koeman wants his full backs to fly forward at every possible opportunity and so there’d be no need to teach Sagna how to do that as he’s very good at it.

 Good European experience

Everton want to be a European side and there’s every chance they’ll be able to do that, even if Sagna replaces Coleman.

The French international knows what it takes to qualify for Europe and play in it thanks to his days with Arsenal and current club City and that kind of know-how is exactly what Ronald Koeman needs to bring into his ranks next. It’s all about that next step for Everton and Sagna would help them reach it.
