The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are loving life at the moment…

It’s been a fantastic start to the season for the Citizens, and it’s been a particualrly good few weeks for one man in particular.

Following the injury to Benjamin Mendy, most of the Man City fans in the pub were distraught. They felt that they had nobody as good as the Frenchman, and with very little back-up, they were convinced that it could cost them the Premier League title.

Step forward Fabian Delph.

Delph stepped in for the Frenchman and has been sensational ever since. The Englishman has stunned, despite it not being his natural position, and just when everybody had written him off, he has come back with a bang.

It’s no real surprise, then, that the Sun are reporting that he could be in line for a new deal in the coming weeks and months, and our landlord thinks that it would be completely deserved.

With that said, here are 2 reasons why Man City simply must tie talented 27-year-old down to a new long-term deal…

Fine Form

Over the last few weeks, Fabian Delph has been simply sensational.

The Englishman has surpassed all expectations, and he could prove to be a very useful option for Pep Guardiola this season.

Benjamin Mendy doesn’t look likely to feature until the end of the campaign at the earliest, and so Fabian Delph could find himself involved for a while yet.

Thus, it makes sense to tie him down and keep him happy. If Man City do that, then the good performances are sure to follow. It makes sense to reward someone for fine form, and Delph certainly deserves that.

 Usefulness

You could argue that once Benjamin Mendy returns, Delph will revert to the bench – and thus his role will reduce significantly.

However, what the last few weeks have proven is that the Englishman is good enough to fill in wherever Pep Guardiola needs him to, and that could be so useful.

If he can play on the left, there’s no reason why he can’t play on the right. He can also play across the midfield. In truth, he can play in so many positions, that Pep Guardiola will always be able to find a role for him somewhere.

He needs to keep his form up for a few weeks, of course, but if he is half as useful in the midfield, or on the right, as he is on the left-hand side of the defence, then holding on to Delph will be vital.
