However, that game has stood on its own as an anomaly this season – with Everton, in general, struggling under Ronald Koeman.
There are a number of players that simply have not been up to par, and Koeman has a lot of work to do over the next couple of weeks to ensure that his squad is as good as it can be.
Whilst incoming players will, undoubtedly, be the focus of the Everton boss, it is also likely that there will be a few departing players; whether that be for personal reasons or for the better of the team.

Ross Barkley
Ross Barkley is one of the most talented players in the Premier League, but at Everton he has seriously stagnated.
He looked good as a youngster, but he hasn’t really reached his potential yet – and a change of scenery might be necessary.
There are a number of clubs that would likely be keen on Barkley, and Everton might be willing to cash in on him. Koeman doesn’t seem to rate him as highly as managers in the past have done.
Gerard Deulofeu
Gerard Deulofeu was expected to become a real star in the Premier League – but it just hasn’t happened.
Like Ross Barkley, he has stagnated at Everton – and a move away makes sense.
He doesn’t really look too suited to the Premier League at present, and whilst he certainly has the talent to make it at the highest level – a move away from Everton might be needed to help him achieve that.
A return to La Liga might represent the perfect foundation for him to reach his potential.
Arouna Kone
Arouna Kone hasn’t been a regular starter for Everton for years, and he has been on borrowed time lately.
The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern expected him to leave over the summer, but he managed to keep his place at Everton – and he hasn’t really done much since.
He is a good player, but at 33-years-old – he is never going to displace Romelu Lukaku. A move away makes sense for player and club.
