Such is the nature of the club these days, there’s nothing quite like a big transfer story in order to cheer up the Manchester United supporting locals in the Transfer Tavern. 

The Red Devils spend and they spend big as they embark on a long-term project to restore the former glories to Old Trafford, this time under the stead of Jose Mourinho.

Having conducted big business over the course of the summer, United still look some way off the pace in the Premier League title race and perhaps the January transfer market provides a natural chance to change things.

There’s little doubt the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ will have big money to spend in the New Year and there are certainly a few deals that can be done to improve the squad.

So, with that in mind, here are THREE January additions who would simply delight the Manchester United faithful.

Jose Fonte

The Euro 2016 winner has long been linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams and would certainly give the Red Devils another option in central defence.

To be fair to Phil Jones, he’s been improving of late, though the Saints skipper is a wise old owl and would be an excellent option to call upon.

Victor Lindelöf

Where Fonte represents a short-term fix, links with Benfica defender Victor Lindelöf should delight the United faithful.

The Swede is a wonderfully solid centre-back of elite quality, who has a huge future in the game.

At just 22, the Benfica ace is likely to be one of the best defenders in Europe and it’s important United ensures he grows with them.

Moussa Dembele

Zlatan Ibrahimovic shoulders the central striking berth well at Old Trafford and Marcus Rashford is obviously a hugely exciting burgeoning talent.

Still, outside of those two, the forward line looks a little bare.

So, moving for Celtic forward Moussa Dembele would be a good avenue to explore.

The Frenchman is one of the most exciting strikers in Europe and his excellence in green and white is there for all to see.
