After a good few wins in recent weeks, the Manchester United fans here in the Tavern are growing increasingly confident that the second half of the season is going to be stronger than the first!

It’s been a tough start for new manager Jose Mourinho and with the spotlight constantly on everything he does, every move he makes is under scrutiny from the supporters and the press.

But after bringing home a few wins on the spin, it’s becoming increasingly obvious that Mourinho is beginning to find a winning strategy, much to the delight of the United fans here in the pub.

But as we’ve seen in the very recent past, the January transfer window hasn’t always been the happiest of times for United and their supporters and there are things that their supporters will hope don’t happen again this time around.

So with that in mind, here’s 3 mistakes Man Utd simply must avoid in the January transfer market…

Senior Replacements

We’ve seen it in plenty of transfer windows at United in the past – their inability to bring in seasoned pros that are going to genuinely help their push for the Premier League title.

Take David Moyes’ first transfer window for example – he failed to replace the likes of Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra and was left extremely short during the subsequent months.

If any “big” players leave the club in January, they need to be replaced before a void appears in the spine of the side.

Keep Key Players

It might seem a little obvious but arguably one of the bigger jobs for Jose Mourinho this window will be keeping hold of some of his bigger players, rather than bringing other names in.

The likes of Martial and Rashford have both been touted with moves away from the club in recent months in the Tavern and it’s important they stay at Old Trafford for when they’re needed later down the line.

It’s going to be a long few months and United will need their players – so Mourinho must not let them leave needlessly.

Utilise the Loan System

There’s an abundance of young talent in the United squad but there are certain players who are playing in the U23’s who should probably be picking some experience out on-loan.

Despite some of the United supporters here in the pub disagreeing, we think the likes of Fosu-Mensah, Johnstone and Tuanzebe should all be picking up some first-team experience in the Football League.

They’re all set to be big players in the very near future and going out on-loan at this stage in their careers wouldn’t be a bad thing in the slightest.
