You just never know what you are going to get from Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp.
The Reds have been about as consistent as Mark Clattenburg’s refereeing – which, for the record isn’t very consistent at all – either showing up to put in wonder performances like those at Chelsea this weekend and at the Emirates on the opening day, or slumping to dismal defeats such as that suffered at the hands of newly promoted Burnley a fortnight or so ago.
The fluctuation in performances and results makes hard watching for Liverpool fans, however none would probably argue that their side have certainly improved under Klopp, and look genuine top four contenders at this point in the season – given they show up more often than not.
A host of summer signings have made a starting XI place at Anfield a sought over thing however, especially going forward, with the Reds having 4 forwards at their fortunate disposal.
So who is to blame for the inconsistency? Or who’s time is up given the depth of the squad? Our local fans at the Tavern think these THREE players’ tenures on Merseyside are nearing an end …
Alberto Moreno
Despite Liverpool’s impressive/thrilling/heart-attack-causing 4-3 opening day win over Arsenal, fans were calling for Alberto Moreno’s head after what was possibly one of the worst performances from a left-back in Premier League history.
The Spaniard was almost solely responsible for Arsenal’s route back into the game, giving away a penalty and making two other major errors.
Not much improvement since unfortunately either.
Lucas
Just what was he doing?
The Brazilian’s suicidal back-pass gave Leicester their only goal in what was an otherwise impressive performance in a 4-1 victory 10 days ago.
The ultimate utility player looks to have become utility-less as the ageing midfielder looks off the pace, and awash amongst Liverpool’s relatively young squad.
Daniel Sturridge
Controversial, but if a player was ever to sum up the word inconsistent, it would be this boy.
While his scoring record may show different, Sturridge’s performances are hit-and-miss and have been throughout his career for both club and country.
Technically brilliant at times but ultimately failing to deliver, Liverpool look a better side with Divock Origi or Roberto Firmino playing through the middle.
