Aston Villa haven’t had the ideal season as, after a dismal year which saw them relegated last term, the fans are now having to endure an underwhelming campaign in the Championship!
On the bright side, though, one thing is apparent at the club now with Steve Bruce in charge in that they have a gaffer that knows what to do and how to successfully manage a club.
Not only that, he knows exactly how to manipulate the market and bring in the players that he needs, he did well in January and needs to go again this summer.
What better time, then, to go hunting for potential signings than in the international break when you can focus on watching players from all over the globe without the concern of a game at the weekend?
With that in mind these are three players that Aston Villa simply must be keeping tabs on during the international break…
TOM CAIRNEY
It’d be quite the task to convince the now Scotland international to leave Fulham who are higher in the table to move to Villa, but with the longer term project in mind perhaps they could sway him.
It’s clear that the Villa gaffer Bruce likes to sign players with Championship experience after bringing in the likes of Scott Hogan and Conor Hourihane on his arrival. Cairney would be a stunning signing and whilst they’d face stiff competition from a number top clubs for him, it’d be a coup for the club and a good one at that!
CONOR MCLAUGHLIN
The Fleetwood full-back is long over due a move to a bigger club, after a great Euro 2016 with Northern Ireland. The full-back should really look to take that step up to the Championship and he could be a perfect fit and a great replacement for the ageing and not so consistent Alan Hutton at Villa Park.
Bruce should get himself to his country’s game or send scouts to watch this lad, he’s got the talent and for sure the ability to make the move up one division.
JONNY HAYES
Yes, there is a kind of theme to these signings being that they are all British or Irish but it’s clear that Brucey loves to sign these kinds of players at previous clubs and it’s been no change at Villa for the former Sunderland and Birmingham gaffer.
Hayes, a young midfielder from Ireland and currently at Aberdeen has been called-up to the senior squad for the first time and he’s well and truly earned it after a great campaign so far with them.
He will be in demand this summer, according to our landlord, and with the club’s stature and history as well as the bigger picture he could be easily enticed to join Villa.
