With so much confusion having surrounded the managerial situation at Rangers over the past few days, the fans in the Transfer Tavern are continuing to talk about potential replacements. 

Considering the size of the club, there’s always likely to be a huge amount of interest in the notion of taking over at Ibrox, despite the fact they trail bitter rivals Celtic in pretty much every way imaginable right now. One of the major grievances with Warburton’s stint in charge of the club was largely down to the fact he didn’t ever seem to properly grasp the magnitude of games other than the Old Firm.

The former Brentford coach had a miserable record against the likes of Hibernian, Heart of Midlothian and Aberdeen, so it’s clear someone who understands the SPFL would be the best option. With that in mind, our punters seem to favour the notion of seeing Frank De Boer return to Glasgow.

Out of work himself, the Dutchman played for the Gers back in 2004 and would represent a coup for Scottish football, so links with him are rather exciting indeed. So, playing Devils Advocate, who could follow him?

Davy Klaassen

With so many of Rangers’ problems stemming from their lack of creativity, the 23-year-old Dutchman would be a wonderful addition to provide some variety in the final third. Perhaps the move would a tad ambitious, considering Klaasen’s standing at Ajax, though De Boer would surely only take the Gers job if he’s handed funds.

Tim Krul

Tim Krul actually moved to Ajax (rather unhappily) after De Boer’s departure, though will be no stranger to his managerial compatriot. While Wes Foderingham has proved to be one of few signings to have really proved their worth over the last few years, there’s little doubt the Gers could do with an improvement between the posts.

With that in mind, a move Newcastle United stalwart Krul, even on loan, could be a good move by De Boer should he join.

Sam Hendriks

A youngster during his time with De Boer in the Dutch capital, Sam Hendriks is now plying his trade with Go Ahead Eagles in the Dutch top tier after finding playing time difficult with Ajax.

However, offering the 22-year-old the chance to play in Scotland and potentially challenge for titles could be an exciting option, particularly with Kenny Miller coming to the end of his career.
