Rangers are back in the big-time in Scottish football and their fans here in the Transfer Tavern are optimistic that better times lie ahead for Mark Warburton and his team.

With circumstances in mind, it’s been a good start to life back in the top flight for Gers and whilst the league title looks to be out of reach on this occasion, building a squad for the next couple of years will definitely be the priority for Warburton and his coaches.

They’ve got a good spine to this current side but if they are to compete in Europe and in the league next season, some timely additions would do very nicely indeed.

But before players can join the club, getting rid of some of the deadwood on the books will also need to occur and there are a few names that the punters in here believe should be leaving this month.

So armed with their advice, here’s THREE Rangers players who the landlord here in the Tavern thinks would be better off leaving the club this month…

Matt Crooks

Matt Crooks was brought to Ibrox at the same time as emerging star Josh Windass and whilst one has shot into the limelight at Rangers, the other has struggled to make an impression on the first-team.

Crooks now has Jon Toral to compete with for game time in that area of the pitch and for that reason, we think he’s a player that might be better off leaving to ensure his career doesn’t come to a standstill.

He’s a competent, towering man to have in the middle-of-the-park and the Rangers locals in here seem to want the best for both player and club.

Phillipe Senderos

We haven’t seen much of Phillipe Senderos at all this season and after the early 5-1 hammering by Celtic, you can see why the Gers contingent in the pub are happy the Swiss international has been kept on the sidelines for much of the campaign.

Danny Wilson, Clint Hill and Rob Kiernan seem to be holding the fort well enough at centre-back right now and whilst reinforcements will need to be made for European adventures, Senderos just isn’t needed on the wage bill right now.

Matt Gilks

Former Blackpool goalkeeper Matt Gilks really hasn’t done an awful lot wrong between the sticks this campaign, but the strong former of Wes Foderingham means he’s really struggled for game-time on Rangers’ return to the top-flight.

On the times he has filled in, he’s been decent but he’s far too good a player at this level to be sat on the bench.

He’s the sort of man who could do a job for most Championship teams or below and for that reason, he should seek a move elsewhere.
