Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are getting excited over Andrea Belotti after Torino claimed they had rejected a bid for the player, from the Gunners, to Sky Italia (via Sky Sports.)

The Gunners have not had the best time of it in recent weeks and have seen themselves fall out of the top four in the Premier League.

That’s certainly not where they wanted to be at the turn of this season and many felt they’d be serious challengers for the league this year.

Of course, it’s too early to rule them out just yet but many feel that new players coming in during this window could define just where their season ends up going towards May.

The potential signing of Belotti would surely be a welcome one, then, and our landlord reckons these three reasons perfectly demonstrate just why the Gunners have to get him in before the end of this month…

He’s proven his class

The Italian striker burst onto the scene last year for Torino with a fine display of goal-scoring form.

The real question about him, though, was about whether or not he could replicate that this season or instead become a one-season wonder. Emphatically, though, he’s proven himself to be the real deal. 13 goals in 17 Serie A games this season cannot be argued with and that kind of return would surely go up if he was playing for Arsenal.

Others will surely go for him

He’s looking like a real star of the future, then, and that will inevitably mean Europe’s biggest clubs will come calling.

With all due respect to Torino they are not currently at the pinnacle of football in this continent and they must surely know deep down they’ll have to let go of him eventually. If he keeps scoring more and more, clubs will join the queue for him and so Arsenal need to try and get this one done before they potentially miss the boat.

They need a new striker

This is the most obvious one, though, as to why the Gunners should sign him – they need another forward.

Alexis Sanchez has played up top a fair bit this season but really needs to be playing off of a main striker whilst you never know which Olivier Giroud is going to turn up. The Frenchman has been decent recently but will surely go off the boil again soon and so the Gunners need another option. Belotti, then, would surely be a more than suitable player to go after.
