Untapped potential
The former Dortmund man likes to work with players who have not yet reached world class ability and then see that they do.
Klopp has turned Marco Reus, Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski to name but a few into world class footballers and if he can see some potential in Balotelli he’ll no doubt try and do the same to the former Man City forward.
He has the hallmarks to be a to player, someone just needs to somehow unlock it and maybe Klopp can be that man.
Close relationships
Klopp evidently builds close relationships with his players and supports them as much as he can.
Perhaps this is what the maverick Italian desperately needs – someone constantly praising him and making him feel ten feet tall.
If the German can get into the psyche of the Italian something might click between them and allow the forward to show all his critics what he can do for a sustained period at last.
Keeping Sturridge fit
Wind back to a 3-0 victory at White Hart Lane in 2014/15. Daniel Sturridge and Mario Balotelli looked like they could be a half decent pairing.
Of course, Sturridge would then get injured for months upon months and the Italy international was expected to be the lone man which was never going to work.
The Englishman seems to be fitter now though under Klopp and if he can stay injury free this might allow Balotelli to finally flourish at the club.
It’d be a rather unorthodox way of realising his potential, but when has anything Mario Balotelli has done been orthodox?
