When Roberto Martinez signed Oumar Niasse in January last season for Everton many Toffees here in the Transfer Tavern were cautiously optimistic he’d be an inspired signing.
Oh, how they’ve been wrong so far.
Indeed, the Toffees fans all over the country felt the same.
Sure, hardly any of them had heard of him but that could prove to be the genius of the move, a real steal ahead of everyone else.
Still, the Senegalese has barely shown anything you’d want from a Premier League striker and it’s a real surprise that he’s still at the club.
Nevertheless, he is still on the books at Goodison Park and shot to prominence once again after scoring a hat-trick in the first half for the under-23 side against Reading.
Yes, you read that right, Oumar Niasse scored a hat-trick.
So, could it be time he starts for the senior side?

Unknown quantity still
Can anyone around the Premier League opposition really say they know Niasse’s game inside out?
The answer is likely to be no and for that reason, Ronald Koeman should consider him.
The element of surprise is on it’s way out with the amount of coverage and scouting going on but few will know what the striker is about so it could be time to utilise that.
Added option
With the rigours of modern day football made a lot of in the Premier League, having an extra option up front is no bad thing.
Equally, Everton really need another forward with Romelu Lukaku and Arouna Kone the only striking options in the first team.
Niasse may have been ridiculed as an option up until now but he could be about to show that he genuinely is just that.
Renewed confidence
You don’t score a hat-trick at any level and not get confidence from it so Niasse must be feeling a lot happier about his prospects.
Scoring three goals in one-half is always likely to get you noticed and if he keeps it up at a regular rate over the next few weeks Koeman won’t have any choice but to give him a chance.
His career at Everton isn’t over just yet.
