Our Spurs fans here in the Transfer Tavern are expecting a strong run-in to see out this season – even if they cannot catch Chelsea.

It’s been another impressive year for Tottenham this season with the Lilywhites once again looking good for Champions League football.

They’ve played some superb stuff at times, too, and whilst the title appears to be gone finishing second would mark good progress from Mauricio Pochettino’s young side.

Certainly, the club will need to build on this year in the summer with some good signings and recently the club have been linked with a move for Manchester United’s Luke Shaw by Yahoo Sport.

It’s a potential move that our landlord reckons could prove to be a good move for all involved, too, and so, with that in mind, here are three reasons why it could work…

Great potential

It seems easy to forget but Luke Shaw is still a very young defender.

The full-back has had plenty of attention and criticism thrown his way under Jose Mourinho but that seems a little unfair as most players his age wouldn’t even be at this level. A move to Spurs could do him good, then, and he’d surely start fulfilling that potential under Pochettino.

A flying full-back

Mauricio Pochettino loves his players in the full-back areas to fly forward and provide the club with width when in the final third.

He’ll only entertain the idea of signing players that can do that, then, and Luke Shaw surely can. He’s one of the best at getting forward from his left-back base whilst his defensive game has come on well enough recently, too. He really does fit the Pochettino mould.

Fits the English contingent

Building a squad is about more than having just good players.

You need great harmony and Spurs surely have that in abundance. They’ve a strong English contingent used to football in this country with the likes of Dele Alli and Harry Kane around so Shaw would fit in seamlessly. You could expect good performances from him soon thereafter.
