3 reasons why Matteo Darmian is perfect for Chelsea – Agreed?

The Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern would be delighted with this deal…..

The summer transfer window might be closed, but that has not stopped the punters in the Football Transfer Tavern from speculating on who the next player their club might sign is.

Chelsea fans are, as usual, at the centre of the conversation, with the Blues keen to gain an insight into who Antonio Conte might look to as his next big acquisition.

The January transfer window is slowly coming into view, and Conte has certainly already chosen a few targets ahead of his next opportunity to invest.

One player that has been linked with a Chelsea move is Man Utd defender Matteo Darmian, whom has yet to make an appearance under Jose Mourinho so far this season.

His name came up as the Chelsea fans discussed prospective signings – and the Blues in the Tavern were absolutely delighted. They think he would be a perfect fit.

Given that he can’t even get into the Man Utd side however, our landlord has asked them to explain why he would be a great addition for the Blues. He just can’t get his head around it…

With that said, here are THREE reasons why Matteo Darmian is perfect for Chelsea – agreed?

Branislav Ivanovic

Branislav Ivanovic

The Chelsea fans have been on Branislav Ivanovic’s back for years now, and the purported arrival of a replacement, in the form of Matteo Darmian, has got them all talking.

It is no secret that Ivanovic’s performances have been worsening in recent years, with a spell last year described as the ‘worst of his career’ by more than a few Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern.

The Serbian defender is certainly getting no younger, and this year could prove to be his last in a Chelsea shirt.

Ivanovic has been an excellent servant for Chelsea, but it might be time for him to pass the mantle over to a new arrival.

Antonio Conte

This could be a huge motivating factor in Chelsea’s reported pursuit of Darmian.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is, of course, Italian – and as a result, he should be well aware of Matteo Darmian’s qualities.

Moreover, Conte utilised the defender throughout his spell as Italy manager, with the Italian full-back becoming a crucial part of the new Chelsea bosses squad during the 2016 European Championship.

Conte and Darmian know everything about each other; and that could prove vital as the Italian boss looks to rebuild Chelsea’s defensive line.

Age

Darmian

Whilst Darmian is no spring chicken, it is important to remember that he is just 26 – meaning his best years are still ahead of him.

The Chelsea faithful in the Football Transfer Tavern have been fearful that their defence has been slowly growing in average age in recent years, and Darmian would serve to reduce that fact significantly.

Perhaps even more important than that is the previously discussed argument surrounding Branislav Ivanovic. The Serbian will be 33 before the current Premier League season ends, meaning he is certainly near the end of his Chelsea career.

Darmian could serve as the perfect replacement, and he could lead the Chelsea right-hand side for years to come.

Our landlord has definitely been convinced; Chelsea MUST pursue Darmian…
