Rafa Benitez is still working on incomings for his Newcastle side and our resident Toon Army are starting to get restless.

The North East side have recruited centre-back Florian Lejeune from Spanish side Eibar, while Christian Atsu has signed on a permanent deal following his loan spell from Chelsea.

Benitez’s successfully produced some bounce back ability, which is no mean feat. It’s been a tough challenge for United and Rafa Benitez, but they are only the second team from the last 15 to be relegated that have won automatic promotion the following season.

However, some Newcastle fans down in the Transfer Tavern seem to think their head coach will struggle to get his side going this season.

BIG CLUB MENTALITY – SMALL CLUB REALITY

Newcastle fans, for some reason, like to position their club amongst the best England has to offer. In actual fact, their side hasn’t one anything of significance for over 60 years.

If their fans forget they are newly promoted, just like Huddersfield and Brighton, St James’ Park could quickly turn into a hostile atmosphere.

As it stands Rafa Benitez cannot seem to attract anyone of quality to St James’ Park. After most recently seeing Tammy Abraham reject a move the North East in favour of Swansea, it has left many of us bemused. Of course, Benitez still has a number of weeks ahead of him to bring in fresh faces.

Although, Dwight Gayle netted 23 goals in 26 games in the Championship, the striker’s Premier League career never took off at Crystal Palace. Did he simply find his level?

Newcastle also have Aleksandar Mitrovic, though the Serb appears to prefer kicking his opponents than kicking the ball in the net.
