Paul Pogba was always going to be greeted with chants of ‘what a waste of money’ this season when he made a mistake and that is exactly what has happened.
Admittedly he would have at that aimed at him even if he’d been on top form with one error, as is the nature of football fans, but the fact that he has been so poor has only escalated their volume.
Indeed, our fans here in the Transfer Tavern love to bring that chant out as much as they can when they’re watching on one of our TV’s and you’ve got to say, at the moment, the Frenchman isn’t doing much to shut everyone up.
He, and the rest of the United squad, are struggling right now and people are not holding back over their criticism of those involved.
Our landlord is included, and reckons these THREE reasons prove that Pogba is the biggest waste of money ever…
Goal return
When you sign a player for the amount of money United signed Pogba for you expect him to score goals and yet he only has one in the Premier League this season.
Whilst it would be silly to compare him to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo (though his price can be,) you’d expect him to have a goal-record like Frank Lampard from midfield.
He has played deep this season more often than not, but one goal is not nearly good enough.
Tactical indiscipline
We’ve seen a number of times this season that tactically, Pogba is poor.
He’s been asked to play in one of the deep-lying midfielder roles most of the time by Jose Mourinho but he surges forward without any thought leaving United exposed.
He’s been asked to play further forward recently because of that and still isn’t having an effect so you’ve got to wonder what the money was for.
Not Premier League suited, so far
Despite appearing to be a really athletic and physical player Pogba has been struggling to adapt to the league this season.
Of course he still might, but at his price he really shouldn’t be taking this long especially when you consider he’s not actually new to football in this country.
The youth levels in England may not be Premier League quality but they still have those physical traits and Pogba should be used to that by now.
