The Premier League is back! And with it come a whole host of new faces, tactics, decisions and of course, goals.
With United’s strong transfer window, they’re certainly a team to watch this season.
For their opening fixture they travel to Bournemouth who have been busy attempting to cement their Premier League status themselves with Jordan Ibe, Brad Smith and Lewis Cook all promising to strengthen the Cherries.
With this in mind, here in the Transfer Tavern the United and Cherries’ fans have been rife with discussion of what the new season and this week’s match have to hold.
After long discussions, here are the top three things to look out for as Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth take on Mourinho’s Man United!
Mourinho’s selection
Mourinho is usually used to a fairly small squad with a cemented starting XI which pretty much picks themselves week in week out (Chelsea, Madrid etc.) but with United he has a whole host of players to select from and some difficult decisions to make, particularly in midfield.
With Herrera, Mata, Mkhitaryan, Lingard, Depay, Fellaini, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Carrick, Rooney – he has some decisions to make.
Callum Wilson
The Cherries forward had a spectacular start to last season with five goals in only seven appearances, but an unfortunate injury left him sidelined and ground his season to a halt.
Now he’s back it’ll be interesting to see if he can recapture some of that spectacular form, and follow in the footsteps of the likes of Alli and Rashford who certainly made the most of their Premier League opportunities.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The Swedish superstar has finally come to the Premier League and will be determined to make a big impression.
He’s already scored the winning goal in the Community Shield against Leicester, and United fans here in the tavern are claiming he’ll be top goalscorer by the end of the season.
Either way, it’ll be interesting to see how Zlatan produces on the sunny South Coast.
Overall, this match may be glanced at as an easy United win, but the match holds much more than that and it’ll be interesting to see how a new-look, superstar United side blend and whether they can deal with a determined Cherries’ side which will no doubt be well drilled by Eddie Howe.
