The Sky Blues fans here at the Football Transfer Tavern can’t wait for the season to get underway, and they have every reason to be excited. After without doubt the most exciting managerial appointment Man City have ever had, Pep Guardiola will bring so much to the blue side of Manchester over the coming year.

Something fan’s are, and rightly should be exceptionally excited about, we can expect to see numerous notable changes both on and off the pitch for the Sky Blues this season.

Excelling at both Barcelona and Bayern Munich, the Spanish manager is the youngest Champions League winning manager ever and has the accolade of FIFA World Coach of the Year to his name.

His Man City overhaul is well underway, so far signing the likes of Ikay Gundogan, Alexander Zinchenko, Leroy Sane, Nolito and Gabriel Jesus.

As the window continues and the start of the Premier League creeps closer, fans are highly anticipating what to expect over the course of the season.

Here are THREE things we can expect from Guardiola at Manchester City this season…

Attractive football

When someone mentions the name Guardiola, you instantly think of attractive football. Guardiola’s Barcelona played some of the most exceptional intricate, mesmerising football I have ever seen.

He installed a more disciplined, high possession and aggressive pressing style that has rarely been seen in the same calibre anywhere else.

While in charge of the Catalan club during a 5-0 win against Villarreal Guardiola deployed a 3-4-3 system, and didn’t even play a single centre back, using Mascherano (who was traditionally a CDM at the time), Busquets and left back Eric Abidal as a back three.

This gives you just a glimpse into the attacking tactical masterclass City fans can expect to see this season.

Youth will be given a chance

Rarely since Man City came into money have we seen youth break into the first team. This is certainly something we are likely to see happen more often under Pep.

Guardiola introduced the likes of Thiago and Busquets to the first team at Barca and although he did not give Messi his debut, he certainly nurtured and helped develop the Argentinian into the world beater he is today.

We did see Kelechi Iheanacho break into the City team last year, with the youngster going on to repay that faith with a return of 14 goals.

Sky Blues fans should expect to see plenty more where that came from this year, with Guardiola likely to give the likes of Denayer and Cameron Humphreys chances in the first team.

Trophies

Guardiola = trophies. It’s that simple.

The 45-year-old has won 19 titles in 384 games as manager. That is a trophy every 20 matches, need I say more?

He won the league 3 times at both Barcelona and Bayern Munich, as well as the Champions League twice during his time in Spain.

If he could carry on just a shred of that record during his tenure at The Etihad, Sky Blues fans will be delighted this season.
