The Spurs fans down in the Transfer Tavern are delighted that their side have got off to the perfect start this season after their 2-0 victory over Newcastle. 

The win at St. James’ Park, however, was made considerably easier after Jonjo Shelvey picked up the third red card of his career. The 2- year-old appeared to tread on Dele Alli just minutes into the second half directly in front of referee Andre Mariner.

It was Alli who had the last laugh though. The Spurs midfielder regrouped to put Tottenham in front, before left-back Ben Davies ensured the win.

It’s a disappointing start for Newcastle, who are aiming to remain in the Premier League this season.

Rafa Benitez will be keen to bring in a few more before the transfer deadline, while Spurs fans are still hoping to see a new face welcomed to their temporary home Wembley.

Benitez has a decision to make over his stand-in Newcastle skipper. It’s not the first time Shelvey has produced a moment of madness and his indiscipline completely changed the game.

The England international has been sent off three times in his career and last season received a five game ban for racial abuse.

SLOW STARTER KANE

Harry Kane still hasn’t scored a Premier League goal in the month of August. The Spurs man had two golden opportunities to break his duck, the first was saved at point blank range by Rob Elliot, while his second effort his the post.

The 24-year-old still has chances against Chelsea and Burnley before the month’s out.

ALLI MATURING

The star stayed cool following the altercation with Shelvey and it appears Dele Alli is keeping a lock on his temper.

Similarly to Shelvey, Alli’s bad temper has got him into trouble in the past, but it’s great news for Pochettino, who has a maturing attacking midfielder.
