It’s far from a crisis at Manchester United, though two losses on the bounce aren’t exactly what the Red Devils in the Transfer Tavern were expecting. 

Even Jose Mourinho, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Paul Pogba can’t fully eradicate the hangover that has plagued the club since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure.

After their most blockbuster summer spending spree of all time, you may have thought the club’s squad was complete.

While it is still the envy of most, the nature of the task at hand suggests at taking more time than merely a single summer.

That being said, there are certainly areas to improve the players at Mourinho’s disposal, particularly by the time the January window rolls around.

Should the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ still be trailing arch-rival Pep Guardiola, and perhaps former club Chelsea, you can bet your bottom dollar he’ll be investing in the winter sales.

Jose Fonte

Daley Blind continues to divide opinion at Old Trafford.

Praised for his ball playing ability in the opening few games, the Dutchman was torn apart by Kevin De Bruyne in the Manchester derby.

With that in mind, Saints skipper Jose Fonte would be a solid backup to the likes of Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly, while also boasting the experience to tutor the latter in a top class defender.

William Carvalho

Much has been made of Paul Pogba’s stuttering start to life back in England, though an argument could be made for him played out of position.

While at Juventus, the Frenchman excelled with a midfielder bruiser next to him and a ball-player next to him.

In the likes of Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick, Mourinho already boasts the latter.

With that in mind, bringing William Carvalho to the club would be a wise move, to act as the defensive shield.

James Rodriguez

While players the stature of James Rodriguez are not often on the move in the January transfer window, reports from Spanish outlet Don Balon suggest the Red Devils are keen on him.

Out of favour with Real Madrid, the 25-year-old would be quite the statement signing halfway through the campaign.

Perhaps a tad blockbuster for the winter window, though United’s expenditure makes anything possible.
