Arsenal have already snapped up Granit Xhaka, and if reports are to be believed; their spending is far from over.

One player that has consistently been linked with the club this summer is striker Alvaro Morata, who is currently plying his trade with Real Madrid, who has returned to the Spanish capital in a mightily confusing deal from Juventus.

Arsene Wenger’s strike force has been a weak spot of the Gunners’ team over the last few years, given that the side has solely relied on Olivier Giroud, with no real back up available.

Now, the Frenchman is a great player in his own way no doubt. Still, he simply isn’t on the Spaniard’s level.

Style of play

The most glaring example of Morata’s superiority comes in the form of his style of play; he is simply better to watch.

The 23-year old posses incredible technical ability and pace, and his ability to drive at defenders and play around them is a joy to watch.

Able to score with both feet and with his head, and so you never know what he is going to do next.

It is that unpredictability that makes him so deadly in front of goal; and that has attracted the interest of a number of top European clubs this summer.

At Juventus he has brought his game up to another level.

Giroud is Limited

Giroud on the other hand, for all of his traits and his excellent scoring record, is a very one dimensional player.

When you watch him you know what he is going to do; he is going to be a threat from set pieces, he is going to offer a decent strike.

These things in their own right are excellent traits, but they are very limiting – he is very predictable.

Now this seemingly hasn’t affected his game, with his goal scoring record getting better as the years go by; and this is not to take away from his own ability.

But in Morata you have a player that is exciting to watch; Giroud’s play style on the other hand is much more limiting.

For a team that prides themselves on offensive quality and having a good style of play; the former is simply a better choice.

It is also hugely important to recognise that whilst Morata is so good to watch now; he is still just 23 years old.

Despite the fact that he is still learning and gaining experience, his quality is clear for all to see.

If Wenger were to capture him, they would have a star forward for the best part of a decade.

Giroud on the other hand is approaching 30, meaning his years are starting to catch up with him.

His limited style of play is only going to grow over the next few years, meaning the gap between him and Morata is going to increase.

Now is the time for Arsenal to invest in the future; and invest in Morata.
