Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are incredibly excited their side is about to reach another final in the shape of this season’s EFL Cup showpiece.

After struggling with patchy form earlier this season United have begun to win in all competitions and go into the EFL Cup semi-final with Hull City, 2-0 up from the first leg.

They’ll be looking to press home that advantage, then, when things kick-off at the KCOM Stadium and our landlord reckons it’s more than likely they will do with Jose Mourinho in charge.

Mourinho loves to get a trophy under his belt in the first season at a new club and this represents United’s best chance to do so, so there’ll be no resting on laurels here for sure.

Our landlord agrees, too, and thinks that if the Red Devils play this XI, Hull will be crashing out of the competition at this late stage…

GK: David De Gea

There’ll be no appearance from Sergio Romero here – David De Gea will be expected to keep a clean sheet and win the game.

RB: Antonio Valencia

Valencia is by some way United’s best right back and will start here. Mourinho may ask him to hold back from bombing on so much in this one.

CB: Phil Jones

Jones has been superb this season and our landlord reckons he deserves a good run in the side even from here. He’ll surely start here.

CB: Marcos Rojo

United should keep their defence consistent according to our landlord. That’s why Rojo will be starting for this one, too.

LB: Matteo Darmian

The Italian left back is Mourinho’s favourite for this position and should start here. Our landlord thinks a replacement will be signed eventually.

CDM: Ander Herrera

Ander has been tenacious this season and that’s led him to be a real star. There’s every chance he could be United’s best player at the end of the season.

CDM: Michael Carrick

Carrick will play to control the game. Match management will be crucial here and if United can keep it together then they’ll win for sure.

RAM: Marcus Rashford

Rashford hasn’t played as much as he perhaps would have liked this season but he could be key for this one. United will look to counter and his pace could be crucial.

CAM: Henrikh Mkhitaryan

The Armenian deserves a run through the middle instead of Paul Pogba. He’s going to be keen to make sure he helps his club reach the final on Thursday.

LAM: Jesse Lingard

Like Rashford, Lingard’s pace could be utilised to great effect here. He’s fallen out of favour recently and so will look to reclaim his position for through this game.
