Our landlord here at the Transfer Tavern has been keeping a watchful eye on our neighbors north of the border – in particular the Bhoys, Celtic, under former Liverpool gaffer Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic have been tearing it up despite the return of Rangers and the improved looking Aberdeen and Hearts this season, with them all but champions now.

One of the main reasons behind that being the case is just how good Moussa Dembele has been after signing from Fulham in the summer. Many questioned why he chose Scotland over other top European countries and clubs that wanted him but he’s really made a massive impact and Celtic really will struggle to keep him in the summer for sure.

This weekend Celtic will look to strengthen their lead at the top of table when they face Motherwell. They’ve already broken so many records this season as they look to surge towards yet another title.

With that in mind, Rodgers must field this Celtic XI to demolish Motherwell on Saturday…

GK: CRAIG GORDON

The goalkeeper whose career looked all but over before Celtic gave him a chance.

The Scotland international has no real competition from Dorus De Vries and will start in this one.

RB: MIKAEL LUSTIG

The Swedish international has been reliable ever since he arrived at Celtic Park.

He doesn’t have much competition for his place in the side and it’s not likely that Rodgers will change from the norm in this fixture.

CB: ERIK SVIATCHENKO

The Danish centre-half was a great addition to the squad and has looked superb under Rodgers this season.

Sviatchenko was a relatively unknown entity before playing for Celtic and will now a number of bigger clubs will surely come calling.

CB: DEDRYCK BOYATA

The former Manchester City defender has had a stop start career ever since arriving on the scene at the Etihad and it’s been that way unfortunately for him at Celtic.

It finally seems like he’s getting a solid run in the side and with injuries this could be his chance to keep in the team.

LB: KIERAN TIERNEY

The young Scottish international has been a revelation since breaking into the team late last season.

He’s been a tad unfortunate with injuries this term but he’s dropped straight back into the side on his return.

CDM: SCOTT BROWN

The Celtic captain has been irreplaceable in the side for a number of years and lives and breathes Celtic.

He is not to everyone’s liking but he doesn’t seem to care and just what he does best – playing his heart out for the club.

CM: NIR BITTON

The Israeli midfielder has been superb in recent weeks for the Bhoys and has even scored the odd goal or two.

The 25-year-old has featured heavily along side Brown and we don’t expect much to change in this one, why change what’s working?

RAM: PATRICK ROBERTS

The on-loan Manchester City winger has been so superb this season.

His skills have even turned the heads of those working at his parent club and it certainly helped when he scored a classy goal past them in the Champions League. There can be no doubt that this lad has a bright future ahead of him.

CAM: JAMES FORREST

The versatile Scottish midfielder has been superb for Celtic this season.

He’s a bit like Ross Barkley, in that he broke onto the scene at a young age and had a lot of high expectation and then had a few seasons not quite living up to expectations. He has recently shown the potential that everyone knew he had though.

LAM: SCOTT SINCLAIR

Sinclair has rejuvenated his career at Celtic after looking below par at relegated Aston Villa last season.

He just loves to play under Rodgers and has had some of his best years as a player under him. He’s been a superb goal scorer as well as providing some great moments for the club.

ST: MOUSSA DEMBELE

What can we say about the former Fulham man?

He does all his talking on the pitch and with back to back hat-tricks in the past two games, he’ll be hoping to make it three in three in this one with another superb performance. Celtic will for sure struggle to keep the French forward past this season.
