4 midfielders who realistically could join Everton in January

The Everton fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are loving life under Ronald Koeman…

Despite a few mixed results over the last few weeks, the Toffees are riding high in the Premier League.

After a few disappointing seasons under Roberto Martinez, Koeman has given Everton a new lease on life – and they look set to challenge for a spot in Europe ahead of next season.

Whilst Everton have impressed, it remains clear that to compete at the highest level – they need some serious investment. They need to sign some top European talent – and in particular, our landlord thinks that their midfield could do with a bit of work.

The transfer window re-opens at the start of 2017 – and Koeman has a lot of work to do.

With that said, here are FOUR midfielders who realistically could join Everton in January

 John Obi Mikel

Mikel

This suggestion has gotten a few of the Everton fans in the Tavern a bit riled up – but in actual fact, it makes a lot of sense.

Mikel will be available on a free in January due to the impending expiry on his Chelsea contract – and he could be perfect for Chelsea.

He would be an economical, experienced, gifted option for Koeman – and it would have very little risk attached.

The Toffees crumbled in the absence of Idrissa Gueye – and Mikel would offer an alternative for Koeman.

 Morgan Schneiderlin

Koeman was undoubtedly hesitant to let Scneiderlin go when he chose to leave Southampton for Man Utd – and he would likely jump at the chance of re-signing the French maestro.

His move to Man Utd hasn’t really worked out for him, and with Mourinho likely keen to sell – Everton would offer a perfect home.

Schneiderlin is one of Europe’s finest midfielders when he’s on form – and Koeman could be the man to get the best out of him.

 William Carvalho

William Carvalho is a powerful central midfielder that would add a whole new dimension to Everton’s midfield.

He offers something different to what Koeman currently has at his disposal – and whilst he is typically more defensive; he is more than comfortable driving at defences and with the ball at his feet.

He would likely be a difficult and expensive option – but Koeman has the funds to get the deal done.

 Memphis Depay

The second Man Utd man on this list and possibly the most likely deal to happen.

Koeman has already revealed (Fox Sports Netherlands via Sky Sports News) that he is interested in Depay – and with Man Utd likely keen to sell, this deal looks likely.

He hasn’t looked great in the Premier League so far, but his exploits in the Netherlands prove that he has what it takes.
