Manchester United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are finally smiling after their impressive demolition job over Leicester City on the weekend.
Rooney was dropped for the Red Devils in the weekend, in what proved to be a masterstroke from manager Jose Mourinho.
He’s the player that’s on everyone’s lips and whether it’s his form, his position or even his age, everyone is talking about his long-term future at the club.
With Wayne Rooney seemingly slipping down the pecking order at Old Trafford, we want to take a look at who might make a worthy replacement if he were to leave the club in the near future.

Antoine Griezmann
If there was one player that seriously impressed out in the Euros this summer, it was Antoine Griezmann.
The Atletico Madrid man shone as his France team were pipped to the post by underdogs Portugal but still, the former Real Sociedad youth product did his reputation no harm as he cantered through defence after defence.
Four goals in three games is a decent start for Atletico and he would be a fantastic replacement for Wayne Rooney.
Isco
Whilst he’s not considered an out-and-out striker, Isco is a man that would add definite quality to United’s ranks, if he were to make a move to Old Trafford, the out-of-favour Real Madrid man would have a real chance to kick-start is beleaguering career.
During his time at Malaga, he was often branded as one of the most exiting young players of our generation and it’s been a slight shame to see his career stilt at Madrid.
A reunion with Mourinho could be an excellent chance for him to kickstart his career once again.
Gareth Bale
We’ve put one truly speculative alternative in here but lets face it, we’d all absolutely love to see Gareth Bale in the Premier League.
Could you imagine the impact the likes of Ibrahimovic and Bale playing in unison?
It would be absolutely devastating and something that would really thrill fans of both the Premier League and Manchester United.
Kelechi Iheanacho
Arguably the cheekiest suggestion in our list – we like the idea of Kelechi Iheanacho linking up at Old Trafford, despite playing for bitter rivals Manchester City.
The young Nigerian has done seriously well in the shadow of Sergio Aguero over the past couple of seasons but if we’re being honest, is he always going to be a back-up?
There will become a point in his career where he’ll want to be a starter and if he can’t dislodge Aguero, he might start looking elsewhere.
He’s showing all the signs of a promising young striker and under the guidance of Jose Mourinho, we think he’d be fantastic.
