Southampton are enjoying yet another season of success and their supporters here in the Transfer Tavern are absolutely delighted!

An unbelievable 2-1 victory over Inter Milan on Thursday evening showed once again just how far the Saints have come in recent years, bearing in mind their Football League roots are still pretty recent.

In fact, during their time in League One back in 2010, the Nerazzurri were busy completing the first ever treble by an Italian team under Jose Mourinho.

And with things going pretty well in the league, it seems that things couldn’t be going much better on the South Coast once again.

But sadly for all you optimists out there, we want to open up the vault to take a look at some not-so-great players that have pulled on the red and white shirt of Southampton.

Trust us, for every Theo Walcott, Rickie Lambert and Luke Shaw that has been a player who has horrified supporters just as much.

So with that in mind, here’s FOUR players who really failed to make the grade at Southampton- do you agree?

Agustin Delgado

Ecuadorian football hero Agustin Delgado made a hefty £3.5million switch to St Mary’s back in 2001 and the expectation on his shoulders was absolutely unreal.

He was a national treasure and after good spells with Quito, Necaxa and El Nacional, many thought he would shine.

But injuries really dogged his time in England and he also fell out with manager Gordon Strachan for refusing to learn English.

Jason Euell

Charlton legend Jason Euell is as well known as they come in the Premier League but his time with Southampton will be remembered for the wrong reasons rather than the right.

Six goals in two years really wasn’t good enough and he was quickly moved from the forward line back into midfield, where he struggled to shine.

Ricardo Fuller

Everyone’s favourite Jamaican striker, Ricardo Fuller was man who was not well liked on the paddocks at St Mary’s during his time on the South Coast.

Having joined from arch-rivals Portsmouth, he quickly picked up a reputation of being lazy and after a decent start, his game time quickly decreased.

He was sold a year later to Stoke City, where he had the most successful spell of his career.

Guly Do Prado

After a successful loan spell with the club, Southampton signed Brazilian striker Guly Do Prado on a permanent deal back in 2011.

But only weeks later it would become clear the former Fiorentina man wasn’t cutting the mustard and he quickly became somewhat of a laughing stock amongst the supporters.

Four years later he left the club, having scored just 13 league goals. He now plays for Botafogo in his native Brazil.
