Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been murmuring today about the upcoming transfer window and know all too well that a stronger title challenge for next season means reinforcements will have to be brought in.
United are fifth in the League and look set to miss out on Champions League status for the second time in the last four years.
Ed Woodwood’s transfer policy has been scattered with success in recent years, the latest flop being that of Angel Di Maria who had little impact over the course of the 2014/15 season, consequentially being sold to Paris Saint German the following year.
It’s well documented that the Red’s have had an unfortunate season with injuries but the club will be looking to challenge for the title next year and their squad is well off the pace as it stands.
There is an array of talent who are without contracts in the summer and the lads in the Tavern have agreed on five players that United should consider signing to bolster their options…

Sofiane Feghouli
The Algerian international is out of contract with Valencia this summer whilst the club have failed to pin down a new contract with the 26-year-old. The Spanish club have struggled this year with ambitions of the top four quickly fading away in the early stages of the season and Gary Neville’s short term in charge left Los Che in a dismal state and bordering on a relegation fight.
United are said to have tabled a deal with Feghouli in March as they look to involve further creative talent to their squad. Louis Van Gaal’s side have struggled to unlock their opposition on a number of times this season and without their defensive dominance, they would likely be well out of contention for Europe.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic
With a goal scoring record in the League rivalled by none in all of Europe’s top tier competitions, Ibrahimovic is having an incredible season and has hinted at a move to the Premier League.
With speculation around Van Gaal’s tenure for another year, Zlatan has given United officials a conundrum after discussing with French media his unwillingness to join the club with Van Gaal at the helm.
With Rooney’s form in front of goal the subject of discussion, an Ibrahimovic number nine role could push the Englishman back into the so called number ten position without having to chop and change the pair up front. It’s safe to say Zlatan Ibrahimovic would not weaken the Manchester United squad.
Gregory Van Der Wiel
Another Paris veteran who, unlike Ibrahimovic, has struggled to cement his position in the side following the emerging talent of Serge Aurier at right-back.
The 28-year-old has made 87 appearances for the French giants since his move from Ajax and is a strong full-back with ability to get beyond the lines and join the attack.
Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian are solid options in the right-back position but Van Gaal has often used winger Ashley Young for a more attacking option. Van der Wiel could be the answer to this issue.
Alvaro Arbeloa
The Spaniard has won just about everything with Real Madrid and is set to leave Los Blancos after losing out to Dani Carvajal in the right-back slot.
At 33-years-old, Arbeloa would bring stability and title-winning mentality to the club with strong defensive qualities.
John Terry
Rumours of Jose Mourinho to succeed Louis Van Gaal as manager next season if United fail to qualify for the Champions League has led to speculation that John Terry could follow the ex-Chelsea manager to Old Trafford.
The 34-year-old is out of contract in the summer and Manchester United may consider bringing some title winning experience to Old Trafford as Terry struggles to break back into the starting XI in the Chelsea team.
