Here in The Transfer Tavern we have been discussing Everton’s season so far and believe not everyone has received the credit they deserve.
Roberto Martinez appears to have built a squad with a great work ethic, players who will play for the cause and get what the blue side of Mersyside is all about.
Yes the club have their big name players in Romelu Lukaku, Leighton Baines, Gareth Barry, and Phil Jagielka, the papers rave about those mentioned, but we have decided to take a look at those underrated players at Goodison Park.
The players who put there heart and soul into helping the team achieve great things without the recognition.
The ones who do all the hard graft and quietly get on with their business in the background whilst the big name players get mentioned on the back pages.
So this is our list of the top five underrated players at Everton, some you are bound to agree with others not but that is what makes this game so great.

Steven Naismith
The 29-year-old Scottish international has been a key component in the Everton squad of the last few seasons. Naismith arrived a Goodison Park during the summer of 2012, after leaving Rangers and becoming a free agent.
The Scotsman has gone on to make over 100 appearances for Everton in just over three years and scored on 18 occasions for the club. His constant running and no nonsense approach to the game make him one of the best players in the Premier League on his day.
This season has started well for Naismith who earlier this season came of the bench to score a hat trick against Chelsea.
Tim Howard
The senior citizen of the side at 36-years-old, Howard has regained the quality this season between the posts, and put his bad spell from last season well and truly behind him.
Into his eighth season at Goodison Park and with over 400 appearances for the club behind him, Howard is the experience in goal that most Premier League clubs would love to have. The confidence in his own ability only make it easier for his back four that they know they have a safe pair of hands behind them.
Howard has kept over 100 clean sheets for the club to date, and shows no sign of losing his number one spot at the club anytime soon.
Kevin Mirallas
The talented Belgian is another who goes about his work without much recognition. Has not featured much for the side so far this season, but Roberto Martinez is adamant the midfielder is a key part of his plans.
Mirallas joined Everton from Olympiacos in 2012, and has become a firm favourite with the fans, his form for the club over the last couple of seasons saw Mirallas awarded a new three year deal in August.
Known for his pace, close ball control and passing ability the Everton fans will be happy to see him in the blue of the club for many years to come.
Leon Osman
Osman is another stalwart of the current Everton squad. The 34 year old is a true one club man he would never have thought that when he first pulled on the blue of Everton that he would still be doing it 15 years later.
The central midfielder was unlucky with regards to the timing of his career with regard to his international career fighting with the likes of Gerrard, Lampard, and Beckham to name but a few has seen him restricted to just two solitary England caps.
If Everton fans could bottle Osman’s passion, desire and commitment to the club they would.
Arouna Kone
Kone is currently enjoying his best spell since joining the club. Kone has proved to be the perfect foil for strike partner Romelu Lukaku.
The Ivory Coast international has a wealth of experience throughout the Europe. Another player who gives his all for the team and recently was rewarded with a new one year deal at the club.
After struggling with injury for most of last season, Kone has impressed so far this hitting five goals in 11 appearances so far. An excellent display in the home win against Chelsea was swiftly followed up with his first Everton hat trick during the club’s 6-2 win over Sunderland.
