After leading a crucial north London derby at White Hart Lane 1-0, Arsenal shot themselves in the foot by seeing Francis Coquelin sent off ten minutes after the interval- which allowed Spurs to take the lead.
Whilst Arsenal managed to claw it back and finish the game with a 2-2 draw, one point from this game simply isn’t enough as it hands Leicester the chance to move eight points clear of Arsenal with a victory against Watford this afternoon.
The draw means Arsenal have won just two of their last 12 matches in all competitions, just one of which has been in the Premier League, and the Gunners look unlikely to end their 12-year wait for a league crown this season.

Transfers
The big issue for many Arsenal fans is Arsene Wenger’s reluctance to spend money. Whilst he’s done a brilliant job bringing Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Petr Cech to the Emirates, the activity he’s done simply isn’t enough.
Last summer, Arsenal needed just a few additions to cement themselves as title favourites but only added Cech. In January, you had to feel a quality striker would have bolstered their position but they stuck with Olivier Giroud- who has now gone 11 games without a goal.
With Liverpool, both Manchester clubs and Chelsea likely to be highly active in the market this summer, there’s worries that Arsenal could be left behind.
Mentality
Losing 1-0 to Barcelona in the Champions League, Wenger elected to bring on Mathieu Flamini- and he subsequently conceded a penalty. Against Tottenham, it was a similar story as the Gunners, needing a win, brought him on again.
It took him 20 minutes today to react to the red card Francis Coquelin received, in which time Spurs took the lead, and then replaced Mesut Ozil, Arsenal’s best player, late on. That’s not the only time though, as in midweek Joel Campbell was sacrificed after running the show- and the Gunners went on to lose.
In a title race you need to hang onto points and shut up shop at times- but those sort of games are not ones when you desperately need a win.
Team selection
Continuing from the above point, Arsene Wenger seems to have lost his way in terms of selections. Mathieu Flamini continues to get game time, whilst Joel Campbell has thoroughly impressed this season but has struggled to hang onto a first-team spot.
Aaron Ramsey has now dropped into a deeper role but he was constantly shifted out wide, whilst there was a time when Mesut Ozil would also be played out of position. Why Arsene Wenger feels these decisions are necessary we will never though.
Seems quite simply doesn’t it, play your best and most in-form players in their natural position.
Playing style
Arsenal earlier in the cylinder were flying on all cylinders with their cut-throat attitude which saw them overcome Bayern Munich, Leicester City, both Manchester clubs and others- but then, after Christmas, Arsenal lost their touch.
The Gunners have now resolved into playing keep ball and take their foot of the gas when they take the lead- which has subsequently seen many points thrown away as the team isn’t suited to playing in that fashion.
Arsenal play best when they’re attacking, so why the reluctance to do so?
He’s lost his touch
All of this adds up to one crucial thing- Arsene Wenger has lost his touch with the English game, he’s let crucial leads slip in the past few years and has struggled to show progression on the European stage, where Arsenal continue to fall apart.
Previously, Arsenal’s squad has overachieved at times and Wenger did well to make them competitive throughout the years restricted by financial implications. Now though, Arsenal have the finances and they have a star-studded squad that should be capable of achieving better things.
The problem is, Arsene Wenger seems unable to get the best out of his squad.
