Deadline day was a busy day here in the Transfer Tavern with lots of teams completing deals for players, and today our landlord opens up to hear about how fans feel their team have done during this window.
Our Tavern landlord had just opened up the door when some Villa fans sauntered through, they were not in any way shape or form impressed with Aston Villa during this month’s window, or at any point of the entire season for that matter.
Our Villa fans are not looking forward to the remainder of the season and are fully expecting to be playing their football in the Championship next season, telling our landlord that Villa are already doomed!
The Landlord can see why they think that, with Villa propping up the Premier League table, having only won twice, and having shipped 40 goals.
Our landlord continued to listen as our resident Villains made a list of FIVE reasons why Aston Villa are already doomed……

Points total
History is against Villa, a team with the amount of points that Villa have at this stage of the season have all been relegated.
Though, West Brom pulled off the great escape, they were bottom and made a miraculous recovery to survive, but Villa do not seem to have that same togetherness or spark in the team.
Villa fans here in the Tavern feel the club have not got the capacity within the side to pull off any kind of recovery – winning seems an unlikely event at the moment!
Transfer Policy
Villa’s recruitment has been shocking.
Tim Sherwood was doomed from the summer as Villa brought in players from France who were nowhere near the quality needed for the demands of the Premier League.
The dealings in this window were significantly worse, they have not backed Remi Garde with any kind of finance, they tried loan deals but players were unwilling to join the sinking ship.
Villa were unwilling to add any players because they are already seemingly considering the financial ramifications of dropping out of the top flight.
Remi Garde already plotting escape
The manager has certainly improved the performances at Villa park, but with no transfers completed in the January window, he can’t improve a team that is simply not good enough.
Garde is rumoured to have been close to quitting as the transfer slammed shut without landing a single target, as no one wanted to join the free falling Villa.
The Villa boss is already thinking about moving on in the summer as he has no intention of managing a team in the second tier, so there is no drive from the manager who is already looking for other employment.
Some players don’t look interested
Our landlord and resident Villains both agree that the application of some of the players has been bordering on criminal.
In recent weeks that has been less apparent as Villa have put in some average performances.
But for large parts of the season, a number of the first team squad have not looked like they care, after falling behind there has been just a resigned look as if to say yeah this is what happens.
Many of the so called stars are already looking around for a new ship to jump on and drag down.
Villa owners underestimated the Premier League
Like many people who take over a club, owners can underestimate the level of investment needed to just stand still in England’s top flight.
Villa’s owner have indeed invested at the club and has expected more return than he has got for his money, that comes from a lack of understanding of football in general, not just of the top flight in England.
That underestimation has lead to decreasing the transfer funds available to managers at the club, and this season is a classic example, they thought they had done enough to stay up during the summer window, but evidently not.
