With Manchester United’s managerial search picking up pace, our landlord is questioning why other names are being considered ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Mauricio Pochettino.
The boss of the north London side has been spectacular since moving to White Hart Lane from Southampton two years ago and our landlord now feels the Argentine boss is ready to make the next jump, moving to a global powerhouse like Manchester United.
In his eyes, Mauricio Pochettino is by far the best fit for United and is a much better option than Jose Mourinho, who he feels will just increase the problems that the Red Devils are facing at Old Trafford.
We weren’t convinced by his claims but we sat him down and asked him to detail five reasons why Pochettino is perfect for United- and we have to say he’s changed our opinion, with us now firmly on the bandwagon that United must do everything they can to land Pochettino this summer.

On the rise
With Jose Mourinho falling apart at Chelsea this season and failing in his previous job with Real Madrid, many believe that the Portuguese boss may be on a decline after a decade at the top. With Mauricio Pochettino though, that’s far from the case.
At just 43-years-old, Pochettino easily has another 20 years in his tank and at his young age he’s got an impressive CV, having managed Espanyol in Spain before moving to the Premier League- and his playing career saw him feature for Paris Saint-Germain and Bordeaux, amongst others.
He does not have any honours to his name as a manager but his rise suggests that will change in the future and Pochettino could easily become one of the best managers in the world.
Utilising young players
Managers like Arsene Wenger and, to an extent, Louis Van Gaal have received praise for utilising young players within their squad- but Pochettino has gone one step further at Tottenham, building his team around impressive young talent.
He’s been a huge figure in the meteoric rise of Harry Kane, Eric Dier and Dele Alli, helping to craft next generation of English football. This has put Spurs in a very strong position for the next few years and he could replicate that at Old Trafford.
At United he’d have a task getting the best out of Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial, Memphis Depay and co but once he works that out, the Red Devils would have a side capable of impressing for years to come.
Strong transfer record
Furthering the last point about utilising young talent at Tottenham, where he’s brought many of the players into the club himself, Pochettino’s transfer record is very impressive- having brought the likes of Dele Alli and Eric Dier from obscurity to success.
At Spurs he’s also achieved a massive overhaul of underperforming players quickly, whilst his latest additions of Clinton N’Jie and Heung-Min Son are already starting to make a positive impression at White Hart Lane.
His record is intensified by what he achieved in the market in just 18 months with Southampton, where he brought in Dejan Lovren, later sold for a profit to Liverpool, and Victor Wanyama- who’s now targeted by many of the top sides in English football.
Style of football
It’s not just the fact that Pochettino is achieving success that makes him an ideal appointment for Manchester United, it’s also the way he’s doing it. Under the Argentine, Spurs are playing a fantastic still of football and are reaping the rewards.
They’ve balanced the play expertly at both ends of the field as they’ve scored 47 goals this season in the Premier League, a number only bettered by Leicester City and Manchester City (48), whilst their tally of just 20 goals conceded is the lowest in the top flight.
From front to back, Pochettino has assembled a remarkable side.
Spectacular form
There hasn’t really been a blip for Tottenham this season, who have lost just three games throughout the campaign- with the defeats coming against Manchester United, on the opening day of the season, Newcastle United and Leicester City.
The defeats against United and Newcastle were separated by four months and since losing to Leicester in January, Spurs have put together a remarkable run of seven successive victories in all competitions.
