Arsenal finished in a very respectable second position in the Premier League this season, and our resident Gooners here in the Transfer Tavern are looking ahead to the summer transfer window.
It was Arsenal’s highest finish in over a decade but the fans at the Emirates will feel that this season was a year that didn’t live up to it’s full potential.
Arsenal made no outfield acquisitions in the summer, only goalkeeper Petr Cech was signed from Chelsea, much to the frustration of the Arsenal supporters.
This left Arsenal with just Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott as their attacking options as Danny Welbeck was recovering from injury.
Olivier Giroud finished the season with 16 goals in the league, Arsenal’s top scorer, but his barron spell of 15 games without hitting the target will live long in the memory, as this was the period that ultimately cost Arsenal the title.
Most Arsenal fans at the Tavern feel that Giroud is simply not good enough for a side competing for the title, and we have found FIVE better, quick more clinical options for Arsene Wenger to consider…….

Alvaro Morata
Perhaps the obvious choice here, Arsenal have been linked with a move for the Spaniard for the last few weeks and it is easy to see why.
The 23-year-old has dominated in both Spain and Italy where he has won league titles as well as the Champions League.
The landlord at the Tavern explains that even though Morata has a worse goal to game ratio than Giroud, this is simply because he plays in a side with two or three other top quality strikers, and he would light up the Premier League.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
The bartender at the Tavern thinks that any club that isn’t interested in this man is out of his mind.
The 26- year-old scored 25 goals and claimed 6 assists in the Bundesliga this term, averaging a goal/assist per game as well as helping himself to 14 goals and 6 assists in cup games for Borussia Dortmund.
The Gabon captain would without a doubt be the ultimate solution to Arsenal’s striking problems.
Gonzalo Higuain
Higuain is nowhere near as quick as the previous two strikers mentioned but he makes up for this slight disadvantage, with an absolutely lethal shot. The Argentinian scored 36 goals in 35 games for Napoli in Serie A, and was on fire throughout the campaign.
Higuain is passionate too and would give Arsenal some extra motivation, the Napoli boys at the Tavern cant bare the thought of Higuain playing anywhere else.
Alexandre Lacazette
Lacazette has been in the media non-stop recently.
Every club seems to be hot on his heels.
The 25-year-old hit the net 21 times for Lyon in Ligue 1, the exact amount that Olivier Giroud managed to score in his last season in the French league.
Lacazette is classy and skilful and would provide a much more attacking flair to the Arsenal side, whereas Giroud spends too much time doing nothing on the wing.
Antoine Griezmann
The Landlord at the Tavern thinks that this man is the best option for Arsenal.
Despite his penalty miss in the Champions League final, Griezmann was phenomenal this season, scoring 22 goals and claiming 6 assists in La Liga.
Griezmann is one of the biggest attacking threats in world football, and would surely be the man to take Arsenal from second place to becoming Champions.
