With the news being confirmed today that Antonio Conte is the new manager of Chelsea, fans in the Transfer Tavern have quickly started to discuss which players he can bring into the hapless Blues next term.
Chelsea entered the season as Premier League champions and full of expectations but instead of further success, the Blues have endured a troublesome season on and off the field, currently sat 10th in the table and set to miss out on Champions League football next term.
With an ageing squad, Conte finds problems all around him at Chelsea and he’ll spend his way out of it, as he’s looking to bring in some big names to turn the tides next season and compete with the big guns once again.
Roman Abramovich will provide cash in hand to get deals over the line and if Conte’s looking for success, then these five targets would definitely be shrewd acquisition’s that could boost Stamford Bridge tenfold!

Paul Pogba
The holy grail for Chelsea, and a lot of quality sides in Europe, Paul Pogba would be a massive purchase and his history with Antonio Conte, who inspired his breakthrough at Juventus, has given Chelsea renewed hope of completing a deal.
There are issues for Chelsea though, notably the immense transfer fee he would command, but the fact that Chelsea do not have Champions League football next season could be decisive- whilst it’s also reported that Pogba doesn’t actually want to leave.
If Pogba does become available, then you can expect Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Manchester City to enter the running.
Edinson Cavani
With Paris Saint-Germain set for a forward overhaul in the summer, Edinson Cavani is expected to leave after three years that he himself described as incredibly difficult. The Uruguayan wants nothing more than to be the star striker at a big club- and Chelsea can offer that chance.
The Blues only really have Diego Costa as a leading striker at the club and the Spaniard continues to be linked with a high profile exit this summer. Whether he stays or goes, Chelsea desperately need to improve their forward lines and the Uruguayan forward would be the perfect fit.
At 29-years-old, Cavani has the experience to lead the attack and also have enough years ahead of him to be a success in west London.
Leonardo Bonucci
Identified as the leading target to replace departing captain John Terry, Italian international Leonardo Bonucci would be the perfect fit to Chelsea’s defence. His experience, alongside the exciting talents of Kurt Zouma, could provide the recipe to success.
The 28-year-old has vast experience working with Conte at Juventus and in the Italian national team, being a favourite of the experienced Italian boss, and he himself could be tempted for a change after spending six successful years with Juventus.
If he does seek a new challenge, the Premier League and Chelsea would be the most likely destination.
Arturo Vidal
One of the stand-out performers in Conte’s successful Juventus side, Arturo Vidal was subject of a big money move to Bayern Munich last summer. Whilst he has impressed with the Bavarians, a managerial shake-up could cost him his place.
If his signature does become available again, a number of sides would be keen to land the excelling Chilean international but Chelsea would have one foot in the door already due to the player’s experience in working with Conte.
The problem for Chelsea is the lack of Champions League football, with Vidal likely desperate to get his hands on the famous trophy.
Emanuele Giaccherini
A surprise target for many when he was first linked with Chelsea, Italian international Emanuele Giaccherini is a realistic transfer target that could prove to be a bargain. With Sunderland struggling, and possibly going to be relegated, Giaccherini would jump at the chance to move to Chelsea.
Although he’s not a big-name like the other players linked with Chelsea, Conte has experience of working with the player on Italy duty and rates the player highly. Chelsea need consistent players to lead the side to glory and Conte could definitely get that out of Giaccherini.
