5 Swansea City players Brendan Rodgers needs to axe if he joins – Agreed?

The season started with hope and expectation for Swansea City fans under Garry Monk but the strong finish to the 2014/15 campaign failed to materialise.

The club dispensed of Monk towards the end of last year when it looked as though the club were about to be dragged into a relegation battle, and was replaced by Italian Francesco Guidolin who has all but guaranteed the Swans an extended stay in the Premier League for next season.

But it appears that a former manager of the club in Brendan Rodgers could be set for a return to the Liberty Stadium this summer, following his own dismissal from Liverpool earlier on ion this season.

With Rodgers expected to become boss, our landlord here in The Transfer Tavern has been going through the Swansea City squad list and has managed to come up with FIVE names who should be axed should Rodgers take control of first team affairs this summer.

Angel Rangel

Despite being at the club since 2007 and being part of the squad that achieved promotion from the Championship, it could be time for the club to say a sentimental goodbye to the defender.

At 33, it seems his best years are behind him and after making just nine appearances in the Premier League for the club this season, it would seem only right that the long serving player sees his contract which is due to expire at the end of next year terminated to make way for fresh blood.

Wayne Routledge

Wayne Routledge

At 31 years of age Routledge has made over 150 appearances for Swansea since joining the club from Newcastle United back in 2011.

Has not been at his best for the Welsh club this season and it appears that his time with the club could well be up come the summer, after just 21 appearances for them in the Premier League this season.

Jefferson Montero

Another player who has failed live up to the top notch performances which he put in during his first season at the club last term.

The Ecuadorian has looked out of his depth at time for Swansea this season and with Rodgers preferring a player who attack as well as defend on the wing, he could do a lot worse than try to move Montero on this summer.

Andre Ayew

Given the choice between Ayew and Gomis it has to be Gomis who is the regular starter up from out of the two.

Following the January signing of Alberto Paloschi and the fact the player was close to securing a move away from the club during the January transfer window, don’t be surprised to see the Ghanaian striker leave the Liberty Stadium this summer.

Leon Britton

Another player who seems to have been at the club for an eternity was part of the squads that have gained promotion from League Two to the Premier League, but at 33 his time at the club could be due to come to a close this summer.

Just 30 league appearances in the last two season’s a move away for Britton, as he enters the twilight years of his career could be just what he needs this summer!
