The Chelsea supporters were feeling thoroughly miserable in the Transfer Tavern yesterday evening after their side lost 2-1 to Manchester United at Old Trafford and dropped out of the top-four for the first time since mid-October.
Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho went head to head yesterday for a crucial fixture in the race for the top-four. The Portuguese manager came out on top despite the fact his side were far less convincing throughout proceedings. Willian fired Chelsea into a deserved lead after 32 minutes when his shot squeezed past David De Gea at the near post, but The Blues could, and should have been in front much earlier in the match.
Less than 4 minutes after the game had got underway, Marcos Alonso found himself in space on the left-side of United’s penalty area, and his fizzed ball across the face of goal was met by Alvaro Morata (valued at £58.5 million by Transfermarkt) on the 6-yard-line, but the Spaniard failed to capitalise on a golden opportunity as his volley crashed against the bar.
The chance was not only a huge moment in the context of the respective side’s ambitions for the season, but also in Morata’s Chelsea career which has been on a downward trajectory in recent months. It was a genuine opportunity for the Spaniard to redeem himself for his lacklustre form of late, and the fact he failed to score has served to further tarnish his reputation amongst The Blues faithful.
In the aftermath of proceedings, the Chelsea fans took to Twitter to lambaste Morata for his failure to score yesterday and for his overall performance at the spearhead of their attack.
Here’s what a handful of the supporters have had to say about Morata on Twitter since his performance against United…
He like tripping over a invisible rope

Morata once went 27 games without scoring. He is not a CB, LB or a MF. He is a full grown Striker with Side Beards that a club wasted £70M on…

Morata needs to man up. This EPL is not fluid. It is tough, physical and you need to be able to stand your ground against defenders. You can’t be moving like talia and expect to score goals. Smh

Morata certainly a better footballer than Costa but Costa far more suited to the league.
Drogba was similar remember – JT actually had a go at him once for going down too easy.

Morata seriously needs to hit the gym and eat his protein , a guy on a skateboard can hold his feet more than him

But why no club is bringing any offer for Morata, we need to sell Alvaro Morata at all cost. He’s a complete liability to the club.
