Football is a cut throat business and unfortunately for the fans, sometimes that young prodigy that you told all your mates was going to be a star one day doesn’t quite make it. For Arsenal fans, that man is Chuba Akpom and yesterday he was sold to PAOK Athens for just under £1 million, ending his 16-year stay with the club, leaving plenty of Gunners devasted.

The 22-year-old striker spent a lot of his time at Arsenal on loan and it never seemed like he would be able to break into the first team and succeed long-term at the club. However, there’s no reason why he can’t go away and hone his skills and eventually come back to The Emirates one day as a better player. The young striker has all the raw attributes of a top forward but it’s about maturing into his game and putting in the hard work too.
Akpom is just one of a number of promising youngsters to come out of Arsenal. Whilst he may not have had the fairytale ending to his Arsenal days, it doesn’t mean others can’t. At the moment, the club has the likes of Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Emile Smith-Rowe, Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah who are all promising to do big things at The Emirates and the fans will be hoping they don’t follow the same path that Akpom has.

Whilst Akpom’s departure is hard to take for some fans, they’ll be hoping he can succeed in Greece and go on to be a big player.
