The Magpies have been linked with a move for Grimaldo in the past, and they were said to be eyeing a mid-season move for him back in October. However, they could have a better opportunity to make it happen this summer, at which point he will be out of contract.

While he could look to return to his homeland, it is stated that a move to England is not off the cards for the Spaniard, and the Magpies are in the market for reinforcements.
The Verdict: Get it done?
If Howe is keen to add an attacking full-back to his ranks at Newcastle, then the 27-year-old would be the perfect signing, having amassed five goals and eight assists in 38 appearances so far this season.
That is a phenomenal return for a full-back, and he also has a proven track record of performing in the Champions League, scoring two goals and setting up another two in the competition this season, so he could help to take Newcastle to that next level.
The Magpies already have the likes of Dan Burn and Matt Targett at left-back, but neither have managed a single goal or assist in the Premier League this season. That would suggest that Grimaldo, who has been lauded as ‘special‘ by some members of the media and ‘one of the best‘ in his position by Benfica sporting director Tiago Pinto, would be a huge upgrade in an attacking sense.
