The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited to see what Sam Allardyce is going to bring to the table at Goodison Park. The Englishman was brought in to replace Ronald Koeman after the Dutchman’s dismissal, and he’s expected to really make his mark on the Toffees’ first team.
Allardyce has a very distinctive style, and he’ll likely want to bring in a few new faces in order to maximise the quality of that style. January, then, will likely be a very busy month, and it appears as though Everton have already identified one of their first targets.
According to ESPN, Everton are keen on a move for West Brom defender Jonny Evans, who has impressed for the Baggies this season. An experienced hand, he’s a typical Sam Allardyce player; offering power, aerial strength and no-nonsense defending.
At 29-years-old, he’s also a player that is in the prime of his career, and with Everton lacking defensive strength and depth, he would undoubtedly come in and make an immediate impact under Allardyce.
Having already played for Man Utd, he’s used to playing at clubs bigger than West Brom, and so he would have no trouble settling in at Goodison Park.
Landlord’s Verdict
Everton have had a tough season, and they need to go back to basics. Evans isn’t a flashy player by any means, but rarely does he make mistakes, and he’s proven his quality throughout his time in the English top flight.
A move won’t be easy, as he’s likely to be in-demand, but if Everton can bag him, then it would be quite a coup for Allardyce and would really put down a marker at his new club.
