Alonso out: Chelsea should sign 1 of these 2 defenders to rival Chelsea’s resident left-back

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Antonio Conte will be given the chance to invest in his team this January. The Italian has done very well, given his available resources, this season, but another sizeable chunk of investment could give his team the edge that it needs.

In truth, there is a lack of depth throughout the Chelsea squad, and that does need addressing, but one area that is proving particularly problematic for those in the Transfer Tavern is at left-back.

Marcos Alonso has been a fantastic asset for the Blues throughout his tenure at the club, but a lack of depth beyond the Spaniard will be an issue as Chelsea’s fixture congestion begins to ramp up.

He has been fortunate enough to avoid injury throughout his time in London, but that could change in an instant, and that would leave Chelsea in a bad position. It makes sense, then, for the Blues to target a top class secondary option in an effort to provide more cover.

With that said, Chelsea should sign 1 of these 2 forwards to rival Chelsea’s resident left-back…

 Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw has had a really tough spell at Man Utd.

The Englishman burst onto the scene at Southampton, eventually earning a big move to Old Trafford. Since then, though, a lack of form, manager faith and a plethora of injury problems have forced his development to a halt.

Still, he’s every bit as good as he was during his early days at St Mary’s, and Antonio Conte could be the perfect man to turn his form around.

On his day, he’s an unstoppable force down the left-hand side.

 Alex Sandro

Alex Sandro is arguably the best left-back currently playing in Europe.

He has been a star for Juventus over the last few years, and the Blues were keen on a move for him over the summer.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Blues move back for him, given how well he would fit into the team. He’s clearly a Conte favourite, and it’s easy to see why.

Electric pace, fantastic crossing and a great engine, Sandro would be a great choice.
