The Manchester City supporters were celebrating wildly in the Transfer Tavern last night following some injury-time drama at the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City have flirted with the possibility of ending their record-breaking run of victories in their last two fixtures before eventually securing the win, but they left it particularly late to secure the three points last night. As the clock ticked into the final few seconds of the additional 5 that was indicated by the referee Paul Tierney, Raheem Sterling stepped up to provide a late winner for the third successive fixture.
The regular Citizens faithful lining up the bar were absolutely ecstatic with Sterling’s late effort that curled beyond the reach of Fraser Forster, and restored the club’s 8 point cushion over Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table.
City’s opening goal of the evening was helped on its way by Southampton’s want-away star and potential City transfer target Virgil Van Dijk, following a Kevin De Bruyne free-kick.
Despite the Dutchman’s contribution to City’s opener, plenty of the City supporters on Twitter were praising him for his performance last night and suggesting he should consider a move to Manchester in the future.
It is fair to say Van Dijk has plenty of admirers outside of Southampton so his future is surely destined to be played away from the south coast.
