The Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern were absolutely delighted last night.
Indeed, the punters propping up the bar were still celebrating their recent Premier League win over Swansea City, so their mood was made even better following Sunderland’s loss to Nottingham Forest.
As if that wasn’t enough, one of the Magpies’ promotion heroes – Daryl Murphy – notched a late winner at the Stadium of Light to continue the Black Cats’ woes.
While Murphy’s time on Tyneside proved short, he was a hugely popular figure at St. James’ Park during his stint in black and white, notching crucial goals against the likes of Rotherham and Brentford to help keep their title hunt up.
His initial signing was largely mocked, but the Republic of Ireland international remains a Geordie hero by the punters clad in black and white.
